Mike has more than 25 years of compensation experience in both corporate and consulting environments. He assists clients in all aspects of executive and broad-based compensation program design, development and implementation.

Mike has worked with organizations of ranging in size and complexity from regional entities with fewer than 20 employees to national and global corporations with employee populations that number in the tens of thousands. Mike has designed and implemented total compensation programs across various industries including retail, professional services, health care, manufacturing and not-for-profits.

Professional Background

Mike joined 3C as a partner in 2007. Prior to that he served as the Group Vice President of Compensation and Benefits for Albertsons for 5 years. He has also held leadership positions in compensation for Arthur Andersen, American Stores and Jewel-Osco (food and drug stores).

Sample Assignments

  • Designed and implemented an executive total rewards program.
  • Developed a compensation philosophy and program based on "pay for performance" which utilized every element of compensation to reward employees.
  • Developed a system-based job evaluation program and evaluated and documented hundreds of jobs. Created new salary structures and developed pay administration program.
  • Directed the due diligence process during a major acquisition that provided detailed compensation and benefits information and analysis to buyers and the Board of Directors; and, developed and implemented a strategy to communicate to officers and managers how the company sale affected their compensation and benefits.
  • Integrated acquired businesses by developing and implementing a strategy to retain key management.
  • Developed and consolidated job evaluation, base pay, annual incentive and equity programs in response to a company's acquisition and reorganization.
  • Designed the corporate, division and retail unit incentive plans to support the company's new business strategy and communicated plans to management through site presentations.
  • Improved the quality and depth of information presented at Compensation Committee meetings and created an executive compensation handbook and an orientation booklet for committee members.
  • Ensured compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and increased the efficiency of program administration by re-designing and documenting business processes and implementing new PeopleSoft technology.

Educational Background

Mike holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology from DePaul University and a master's degree in Administration and Organizational Behavior from George Williams College.

Professional Affiliations

Mike is a member of World at Work, the Council on Employee Benefits and the National Association of Stock Plan Professionals. He also serves as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Family Resources Center in Chicago and chairs the Board's Governance Committee.
